I just don’t care about shoes

I felt like I wasn’t very good at being a girl growing up. I was never interested in make up and I was never interested in shoes the way pop culture made me feel like I should be. I especially was not interested in wearing heels. As a teenager I wore my Converse sneakers every day for so long that my mum would joke that I’d wear them to my wedding under my dress. Now that’s a memory packed with social norm-based baggage!

Now I am an adult I am still not much into make up or shoes. I am at peace with being my own sort of woman, but I still do feel twinges of anxiety when I need to be dressed up for an event. I bought a pair of heels for those sorts of things. And I hate wearing them.
